TRAVEL REPORT

For those of  you who have checked out the web site, you will probably have seen Linda and John Austin’s advert for their holiday apartments in Austria .

A couple of weeks ago myself, hubby John and Lorna went out to catch up with Linda and John .   We had a great week  and would certainly recommend  “Mulhradl” as a holiday destination.

Mulhradl is about 1hr drive from Salzburg Airport, in the quiet little village of Gosau, at the foot of the Dachstein Mountain Range, which gives you the opportunity of hiking, mountain biking and swimming in the local lakes, which are crystal clear, so for you tri-athletes out there what more could you ask for.

Linda and John can arrange bike hire for you which they did for us, and we had a great time biking up the Dachstein Runde, you can be out for many an hour, biking up and up and up, but well worth the views, there also places to have a lunch break in little Huts called Alms which provide bread and cheese (plus more in some places ) along with liquid refreshment, a nice cold beer is always welcome after a long bike ride (they do soft refreshments if you prefer including milk from the grazing cows, which are taken up from the valley to higher ground for the summer.  You can hear the dingle of the cow bells, which is a dead give away as to where they are hiding, they seem far more relaxed than the “ Downs ” variety.  This was my first time on a bike for over 10 years and with John Austin’s superb coaching up and down the mountain on the first time out,  I was set for the rest of the holiday, would I do it again, you bet.

If biking is not your thing then the hiking trails are equally interesting and well worth doing, and you can still enjoy the refreshments of the Alms, there is one you can even reach by cable car, so there is no excuse for not enjoying the views, if you don’t fancy the cable car then the Bummelzug Train will take you for a slow ride up the mountain.

For those  just wanting a relaxing holiday visiting different places this is equally achievable with plenty of places to visit, a beautiful village called Hallstatt where you can also visit a salt mine via the funicular railway, St. Wolfgang a huge lake with plenty of places to just laze around, ice caves, a water theme park to keep the kids amused, all within driving distances of Muhlradl, Linda and John can provide you with all the info you require.

The Mulhradl is a lovely place to stay with all the facilities you would need and a great view of the mountain from your balcony.   So for what ever kind of holiday you require Mulhradl gives you a great choice, and I‘m sure if you ask John nicely he will be only to happy to take you out for a day’s biking.

After a day’s biking, we biked past the lake, my fellow bikes decided it was an opportunity not to be missed and went for a refreshing swim, which they all said was great.

We’ve already booked another week out there in February to check out the skiing which should be interesting as this will be a first.   So don’t take  my word for it check it out for yourselves, Linda and John would only be to glad to catch up with all the news from the running club, and you will always be assured of a warm welcome, from them, along with a friendly doggy welcome from Holly the Collie, so if you miss your pet whilst on holiday, you have a holiday substitute who just enjoys all the attention.

If you go have a great time.

Think I could get used to travel reporting, seems like good job to me.
