the complicated bit...

There are 5 merit table distances that you can gain point, these are

5k, 10k, 5 miles, 10 miles, half-marathon (13.1 miles)

You can run any AAA's certified race over any combination of these distances to gain points.

If it's not a local race just provide a results sheet as proof of your time and we will work out your points

MERIT TABLE POINTS are based on the percentage (%) you run of your current table PB (personal best)

We just don't divide this result by 5 as previous years -

For example if you ran 95% of your PB last year you would have received 19 points

Where as this year you would receive 95 points

To keep the bonus in line for a PB as we're increased the main point by a factor of 5,

we're also increased the bonus for a PB by a factor of 5

So where as last year you would have received a Bonus of 1 point for a PB ... You now get 5 points

This also makes the PB points clearer to understand

If this year you ran 6% quicker than your PB You will receive 106 Points + 5 Bonus Points = 111 Points

Where as last year you would have received ....... 21.2 Points for a 6% PB + 1 Bonus Point = 22.2 Points

---------

As an incentive to set new PB’s you will gain 5 extra points if you set a new PB.

For example if the same runner set a new PB of 49 minutes they would gain the following points.

Merit PB = 50 minutes

Race Time = 49 minutes therefore % of PB = 50/49 x 100 = 102 %

Therefore Merit Table Points = 102 points

+ 5 Bonus Points = 107 Points

Don’t worry if you don’t have a current PB from last year for a race distance .

Your staring MERIT TABLE PB is based on your times from last year.

If you are not a VET your Merit Table PB is simply your fastest time from last year.

However, if you are a VET (on or before 1st March) we will allow for your natural slowing.

For VETS your Merit Table starting PB will be your fastest time from last year + 1% of that time.

Only your best 6 totals in the year will count towards the final Merit award.
