Venue
Gloucester Park, Basildon. The route is approximately 3.8 miles and includes a flat 1mile followed by 2 laps of the hilly part of the park. Route can be found at

Race HQ
Race HQ is the running track at the northern end of Gloucester Park.

Parking
All parking at the southern end of Gloucester Park (by the swimming pool, reference http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=SS14+2EB&countryCode=GB#map=51.5728,0.45198|14|4&bd=useful_information&loc=GB:51.57282:0.45199:16|SS14%202EB|SS14%202EB

There are 7 football matches taking place that day so no parking will be available at the north end by the running track.

Toilets
Available at the running track.

Entry Fee
The entry fee is £2.00, and should be handed to your team manager before the race.

Identification
All runners to wear club letters and colours, and all participants must be over 17 years of age. Please present your discs immediately after you finish to ensure the results can be announced promptly.

Refreshments
Water will be available at the finish, hot drinks will be provided after the race at the running track.

Presentation
Will take place at the running track as soon as score sheets are handed in and have been checked.

So, what's it all about then this Cross Country League? 
Well it is a inter-club winter cross country league, hosted by Benfleet Running Club, Havering, Thrift Green, Billericay , and Pitsea Running Club.
Each team hosts their own event, and the dates are listed below. The longest distance is around 6 miles. 

Each race starts at 10.30am sharp, so plan to arrive at least half an hour before that.  Some of the locations have limited (and paying) parking so plan to get there early and lap up the pre-race tension. 

Each events cost £ 2.00 (tbc, this was last years fee) which gets paid to Clive or Lynn at the event.
Look out for Clive's Mystery Mobile, or the huddle of nervous (shivering) Benfleet Runners. You will be given a letter to wear on your vest ("E") which signifies you are one of us. Please ensure you also wear your Benfleet Running Club vest. The event is called to order and the race is off.
The terrain, as you can guess, can be anything from rock hard, muddy, wet, slippery, uphill, downhill, etc. 
Good trail shoes (or spikes) are preferable but you can get away with decent running shoes. Just don't use you new ones !
When cross the finish line you will be given a disc (with a number on it) this is your finish position. This is not a medal to keep, but needs to be given to the "disc collector" at the finish. This will be either Clive, Lynn or somebody else from our club. 
The winners are the team with the lowest aggregate position scoring,  The scoring consists of 7 men to score including 2 vets (over 40) and 3 women to score of which 1 must be a vet (over 35). But the more runners we get out, the better chance you have of playing your part and ensuring the other club team members (booo) get beaten and have a higher score.  This puts there score up, and will help us secure another fine win. Come along and have a go - what's a bit of mud between friends ? It's also a great stamina work-out for your training diary.

Thorndon		win for BENFLEET	SOUTH ESSEX X COUNTRY LEAGUE At the 3rd round of the South Essex Cross Country League at Thorndon Park Benfleet chalked up their 3rd win of the series.    The overall mens winner was Crispian Bloomfield of Billericay Striders.  However the star of the day was Benfleet's Stacey Ward who not only finished 1st lady but was 8th overall in the mixed field.    Benfleet's ladies destroyed the opposition to take 1st,  2nd and 3rd place Tracy Swindell 2nd and Jacqui Watson hot on her heels in 3rd.  It was 7 in the top 10 for Benfleet with Karen Goode 4th, Gail Dawson 6th, Lucy Mancer 7th and Vanessa Dodds 10th.    Benfleet's men also had a strong showing with 3 in the top 10, Jez Mancer 4th, Graham Booty 5th and Andy Morris 10th.  Tony Mead 12th, Dave Thomson 17th, Kevin Steed 27th and Stuart Watson 29th completed the team who finished 42 points above 2nd place Thrift Green Trotters.    This now places Benfleet in a commanding lead with maximum 15 points after 3 races, 3 points ahead of Thrift Green Trotters with just 2 races left in the series.    xls spreadsheet RESULTS           webpage RESULTS

The final race of the South Essex x-country League at Thorndon Park saw
victory for Benfleet Running Club winning not only the race but also
clinching the top position in the series to win the League shield for the
the last time we won the league was the 2002 / 3  season

It was another excellent turnout from Benfleet which meant that the margin
of victory over Bilericay Striders who finished 2nd was one of the largest
of the season.

The winning team was Jacqui Watson 2nd, Lucy Mancer 3rd Ann Howe 9th and
for the men Jez Mancer 8th Kevin Steed 10th Graham Booty 11th, Ian Pike
12th, Tony Mead 17th Steve Desborough 18th and Nick Edgeley 27th.

The performances were particularly impressive as the course was extremely
muddy and slippery in parts where many of the quicker runners were
struggling to keep a foot hold on the steep downhill sections.

1st lady was Donna Stirling of Ford Fitness and 1st man was Crispian
Bloomfield of Billericay Striders.

In the end it was a comfortable victory for Benfleet in the final League
standings, with wins in 3 of the 5 races at Hadleigh, One Tree Hill and
Thorndon.

Thanks to all the runners who turned out especially several faster runners
who were struggling with injury niggles but suffered the pain anyway for
the sake of the club and congratulations to the many male and female
runners who scored in the 5 races to help us bring the shield back where it
belongs - AT BENFLEET !
